The aim of the midwifery undergraduate program is to be equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to serve in all areas of the midwifery profession, to provide evidence-based care, to contribute to the development of the midwifery profession by conducting scientific research, to think critically, to have developed problem-solving skills, to adopt ethical values, to respect human rights and freedoms, and to is to train professional midwives who adopt the importance of lifelong learning as a principle.
The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Midwife is a responsible and reliable person who provides the support, care and counseling that women need during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period, who gives birth under their own responsibility, who cares for newborns and babies. is professional”.
According to the Ministry of Health, midwives carry out maternal and child health services, provide prenatal, postnatal and postnatal services, provide nutrition and vaccinations for 0-6 age group children who give birth, family planning, personal hygiene rules, first aid, protection from infectious and social diseases, He is a member of the profession who graduated from a school registered by the Ministry of Health, exemplary with his humane and moral behaviors that provide health education to the individual, family and society on war-related issues, and ensure the necessary cooperation with public institutions that collect and evaluate birth, death and statistical data. In this context, midwifery is a professional profession that has gained a respectable place in societies throughout the ages and includes science and art.
Our Midwifery Department students have completed the Minimum Education Programs of the Doctorate, Nursing, Midwifery, Dentistry, Veterinary, Pharmacy and Architecture Education Programs numbered 26775 of YÖK, which was prepared in line with the Directive of the European Union No. They graduate by completing the criteria specified in the Regulation on Determination of Conditions. These criteria are listed below:
1- Counseling pregnant women, including at least 100 prenatal examinations,
2- To care and follow up at least 40 pregnant women,
3- At least 40 births by the student; If this number cannot be reached due to the lack of women giving birth, this number can be reduced to a minimum of 30 on the condition that the student assists in 20 more births.
4-The breech should actively participate in the birth. If breech birth is not possible, simulation should be performed.
5-Applying episiotomy and starting with suturing, this includes giving theoretical information and clinical practice. Suturing practice includes suturing post episiotomy or simple perianal tears. If necessary, this is done in the form of simulation,
6- To care and monitor 40 women who are at risk during pregnancy or childbirth or postpartum period,
7- To monitor and care for at least 100 puerperant mothers (postnatal mothers) and healthy newborn babies (including examination),
8- Newborn baby observation and care, including babies who require special care, premature, post-term, low birth weight or sick babies,
9-Care of women with gynecological and obstetric pathology,
10-Participating in medical and surgical care (required training should include theoretical knowledge and clinical practice).
In addition to the criteria mentioned above, in order to graduate from the midwifery undergraduate program, the student must have completed all the compulsory and elective courses in the midwifery curriculum, and have a minimum GPA of 2.00 and a total of 240 ECTS. Those who successfully complete their undergraduate education and training are given the title of "midwife" and graduate.
Graduates of the midwifery department can work in public, university and private hospitals, delivery rooms, gynecology services, high-risk pregnancy services, newborn units, community health centers, relevant units of family health centers, health houses and public health. They can also work as freelance midwives, follow up pregnant women and give birth. In addition, they can work in Birth Preparation Centers or open their own private centers. Again, after fulfilling the necessary criteria for postgraduate education, they can progress academically by studying at the master's and doctorate level.
